WHO JOCKUM

Entrepreneur and Economist

I’m a startup co-founder in the property industry, a job that requires the ability to define the problems and open-mindedly search for solutions, attentively listen to customers, and a desire to continuously learn. By training I’m an economist, which was an easy choice for me as someone who is interested in society and carefully considering costs and benefits.

From Europe to Lauttasaari

The last couple of years I’ve lived in Lauttasaari. Before that I lived and worked in London, Brussels and Stockholm. My years abroad were incredibly formative, making me appreciate what it is that makes a city work and welcoming to newcomers. Now I’m happy to be home and enjoy the seaview, short distances and well-organized public services.

Committed to a Better Future

I’m driven by the desire to leave the world in a better shape than I found it - a desire that only has strengthened since I last year became a father. We face big challenges, but a better tomorrow is possible as long as we roll up our sleeves and find the right solutions, together.

MY HELSINKI

A Dynamic City

Newcomers from near and far are welcome, and both new and old city residents should be offered excellent public service as well as affordable housing.

As Finland’s window to world, Helsinki should be open, international and liberal.

Helsinki should be an obvious choice for all sizes of companies, from sole traders to multinationals, when deciding where to establish.

A diverse and vibrant city, with a wide range of services, events and smooth everyday-life makes people want to come, return - and stay.

A Sustainable Tomorrow

We have to act today to ensure that our tomorrow also is good.

Helsinki should lead by example in climate policy. This requires determined efforts to reduce emissions in construction and land use, electricity and heating, and transport.

Public transport should be the easy choice. This requires excellent connections and reasonable prices.

Sustainable growth also requires a responsible economy. Well-managed finances are the best guarantee that we can make smart investments where needed.

A World-Class School

School should equip everyone with the skills they need to take their place.

The city should ensure that there is a sufficient, competent and well-cared-for staff, working in appropriate and high-quality facilities.

The health and wellbeing of our children and adolescents must be a priority. We need counsellors, psychologists and special needs teachers, as well as low-threshold, undemanding leisure activities.

Taking a step back and using paper books where sensible is healthy, while there needs to be clear rules and limits on smartphone use.
